How to Setup Remote Desktop (technical reference only)
1. Open Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs. Click Add/Remove
Windows Components.
2. Click Internet Services then click Details.
3. Click World Wide Web Service then click Details.
4. Select Remote Desktop Web Connection check box then click OK.
5. In the Windows Component Wizard, click Next. Click Finish after the
wizard has finished.
6. Click Start, Run and type: Net Stop W3SVC, then OK (this temporarily
stops the World Wide
Web Services to keep your computer safe while you
update it with security patches).
7. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Windows Update, scan for
updates and update all "Critical Updates".
(Restart computer if asked to do so after the
updates... if any. If not goto 8. Skip 8 if restarting).
8. Click Start, Run and type: Net Start W3SVC (this starts World Wide Web
Services).
9. Open Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance then click
Administrative Tools.
Double click Internet Information Services.
10. In the ISS snap-in, expand your computer name, expand Web Sites, right click
Default Web Site
then click Properties.
11. On the Web Site tab, change the value for the TCP Port, entering a number a
number that you can
remember between 1000 and 65535 (you'll need this
number when you set up your connection later).
12. Click OK and close Internet Information Services snap-in.
13. Right click on "My Computer" and click Properties.
14. On the Remote tab, click Allow users to connect remotely to this computer.
15. Click "Select Remote Users" then select Add.
16. In the Select Users dialog box, type the name of the user and click OK.
Click OK again to return to the System
Properties. Click OK to close it.
